Cam Zurhaar had a day to remember against Richmond on the weekend. The exciting forward kicked a career-high six goals including the winner with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

That final goal came courtesy of a sumptuous tap from veteran Todd Goldstein. Zurhaar didn’t even have to break stride as he received the ball from Goldstein, and he put the final touches on a great team move.

Goldstein, tongue in cheek, says he did the hard work leading up to the goal.

“I put it on a platter and pretty much kicked it for him,” Goldstein told RSN.

“Cam was good enough to slot the goal … he still had a bit of work to do so I will admit it was a good finish by him … I think we both felt like there was a little bit of space out there at that point of the game, and I was quite shocked when I saw quite how much space he had.

“I think it was was of those times the footy gods looked down on us with a smile … it was a perfect play [and] you’re not going to get a lot of those throughout a season."

Zurhaar was one of a number of key men to step up for the Kangaroos alongside the likes of Goldstein, star midfield duo Luke Davies-Uniacke and Jy Simpkin and defensive wall Ben McKay.

While those five players have been trusted to be among the team’s best players week in, week out this season, much of the exciting young talent around them also stepped up to deliver when it mattered against Richmond.

Paul Curtis kicked an exceptional three goals in a career-best display. Lachie Young kicked his first goal for the club and was a strong performer on the wing. Bailey Scott laid a game-saving tackle late in the game, and Phoenix Spicer continues to go from strength to strength with each passing week.

Goldstein says the performances of some of the side’s lesser known players were crucial to the victory.

“I think we do have some really, really talented kids. It comes down to how much they want to work and how much they want to develop,” he said.

"Everyone in the AFL has talent. It’s what you do with that talent and how hard you work to maximise that. That’s the challenge this group’s got and my belief in that hasn’t changed at all.

“The more players, even the lower players in that 22, 23 [man] playing group, them stepping up and playing their role can make a huge difference to the guys who have potentially been trying to do too much at times."
