More than 600 boys and girls have taken part in North Melbourne Next Generation Academy tryouts.

The tryouts were held in three locations across the southernmost state this week, with North heading to Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone to find the next future stars.

North GM of List Management and Operations Cameron Joyce said the club was thrilled to see such big numbers of dedicated boys and girls.

“With 600 in Tasmania and about 180 at our two Melbourne tryouts, we have been thrilled with the turnout and interest in our Next Generation Academy,” Joyce said.

“We’ve been amazed with not just the numbers, but the quality of young footy players coming through that has certainly given those running the tryouts plenty of food for thought.

“Our National Recruiting Manager Bryce Lewis was also in Tasmania assessing the talent, along with North staff who have told me only good things about what they have seen at the tryouts across both Victoria and Tasmania.”

North’s Next Generation Academy, for children between the ages of 11 – 15 years old, will aim to ensure the game continues to attract and foster the development of players, regardless of background or location.

Kangaroos staff, together with the team AFL Tasmania and Dynamic Footy Skills ran the tryouts, assessing a varying range of skills and attributes to help identify future stars.
