Sam Gibson says North has shown “glimpses” of its best form over the past four weeks, giving it confidence to perform in September.

Speaking to The Age’s Greg Baum, Gibson backed the Roos to take it up to Adelaide on Saturday night, despite going in as underdogs.

"The positive thing for us is there have been glimpses in the last month. The first half against GWS was pretty encouraging. The majority of the game against Sydney was really encouraging,” he said.

“We've got confidence if we can put it all together, we've got the game plan and the people on the park to have success. That's what we're focusing on."

Gibson has played in all six of North’s finals over the past two seasons, and said the Roos’ experience would be key heading into another September campaign.

"Obviously, we would have liked to come in under better circumstances," he said.

"But we qualified for finals. We did what 10 other teams couldn't. We see that as one season. It's gone.

"This is a new season. We've won four finals in the last two years. We've won interstate finals. West Coast did us a favour [in round 24] and gave us a pretty good blueprint of how to beat Adelaide in Adelaide. We'll look at that.”

The hard-running midfielder is set to play his 108th game in a row since his debut, but said he still appreciates every match as it comes.

"When I was getting towards 100, [I was thinking] it'd be a nice thing to have 100 consecutive,” Gibson said.

"But now I don't really want to worry about that too much. If I start worrying about where I'm going, I'll stop focusing on the here and now.

"We're footy players, we want to play every week. For me, the driving force is, play the game and then do what I have to do to get up for the next game. It's been working for 107 weeks!"

Gibson admitted his inclusion into the North side came at the perfect time in 2012, as North hit a strong patch of form.

"Traditionally, when that happens the team doesn't change," he said.

"So I had a spot there. I had 13 games in a row. I played every week, and it took me five, six, seven weeks just to feel semi-comfortable. I had that clean run at it."

But there’s no doubting his impact; one of the Roos’ most consistent players, he’s averaged over 22 disposals a game throughout his career.

In the heat of finals, Gibson’s tireless work ethic and ability to find the ball will be vital.

With a week’s rest under his belt, he’s raring to go.

“It's actually nice physically to get away and forget about footy for a few days and do things normal people do during the week, then come back mentally fresh and ready to attacks finals,” Gibson added.
