Ben Cunnington is the fans’ choice as North’s best player in the first half of the season.

Over 2,000 fans have had their say in the Mazda Excellence Award over the first 11 rounds, with Cunnington the outright leader from Shaun Higgins.

With the votes tallied, the midfielder has polled in six games, including three best afield performances in Rounds 4, 5 and 9.

Cunnington had 33 disposals and 10 clearances in Round 4, 29 and five clearances the following week, and 26, five clearances and a goal in Round 9 against Melbourne.

Higgins has 10 votes with two best-on-ground performances; Round 2 against the Cats (27 possessions, seven tackles, two goals) and Round 10 (27 touches, eight clearances, five tackles, two goals) his standout games. 

Robbie Tarrant is third with eight votes, with Ben Brown (five votes) fourth and Jack Ziebell and Jamie Macmillan sharing fifth place with four votes apiece.
