Growing up as a North Melbourne fan, Kate Gillespie-Jones jumped at the chance to join the club ahead of its first AFLW season.

“I’m really excited to start at North Melbourne next season,” Gillespie-Jones told North Media.

“I played two years at Carlton, which I really enjoyed, but I’m looking forward to a change and a new challenge.”

Gillespie-Jones has gained a reputation for her ability to play across all areas of the ground.

“I’m a pretty versatile player,” she said.

“I’ve been playing for Melbourne Uni under Scott (Gowans) and he has been throwing me everywhere.

“I think that will continue once we get going at North, and he will look to use my versatility.”

Although she is happy to play her role wherever the team needs, Gillespie-Jones sees the midfield as her strongest position.

“I’m hoping to play more in the midfield, and use my running capabilities a bit more.”

Gillespie-Jones was one of 13 North Melbourne AFLW players that were invited in the North rooms prior to the Essendon game in Round 15.

“We got to go into the rooms pre-game, and hearing Brad (Scott) talk about the game plan was a great opportunity,” she said.

“It was really good to get together with the North Melbourne (AFLW) players, and sit together and have a bit of a bonding experience.

“We have recruited really well, and having these bonding experiences and cohesiveness will be really important in the future.”
