AFLW: Gowans on Munn

Courteney Munn has the ability to make an instant impact according to North AFLW senior coach Scott Gowans.

As Gowans reveals, his mind was made up quickly after seeing a short highlight-reel of the forward, provided by North's AFLW list manager Rhys Harwood.

“Courteney will be a bit of a surprise packet to the team,” Gowans told North Media.

“We think she can impact straight away, but also have that time to develop as well.

“Courteney was a player that we decided that we needed to get a little more height as a back-up for what we had.

“When we were looking through it, Rhys Harwood put together some edits of her. It was pretty clear once you isolated the footage, that this girl is a great prospect to have in the team.”

A proven goalkicker, the 19-year-old is relishing her time at Arden Street, working closely with spearhead Ben Brown and teammate Ash Riddell to improve her game.

In that time, Gowans and his coaching team have been impressed by Munn’s aerial threat and marking ability, a skill she developed during her time with the Southern Saints in the VFLW.

“She’s developing in the other aspects of her game as well,” he said.

“She’s 183cm with elite hands and takes really good marks. I can’t wait to get her out on the track and teach her to fit in with the way we want to play up forward.

“I think she’ll really enjoy her time up here.”
