He has played 232 games, but the build up to Scott Thompson 233rd has been unlike anything he's experienced before.

The 33-year-old touched down in Hobart on Sunday morning, almost 20-hours after the rest of his team-mates, due to the imminent arrival of his third child.

“My wife, Lauren, is actually due to give birth next week, but our last child was two-weeks early, so we’re expecting it anytime,” he explained to North Media.

“I thought it might have happened last night, so just took that precaution and stayed home. All went sweet last night - no arrival.

“It was a family agreement definitely, I love my family. So I’d like to be there for the birth of our child.”

While Thompson is obviously hoping for no action away from Blundstone Arena today, he still wants to be told if anything happens back home.

“I wouldn’t mind that,” he said.

“There’s not much you can do once you’re out in the field, but it would just be nice to know.

"It might be distracting for five seconds, but once you’re on the footy-field you don’t really think about anything else.

“We’ve done it twice before (given birth) so you kind of know what’s going on but it’s still very exciting to bring a baby into the world so hopefully it all goes well.”
