Each week, the best VFL player will be crowned MVP – Presented by the Limerick Castle; a country-style pub located in the heart of North Melbourne.

Round 16: Sam Wright.

A polished display at state level has seen Sam Wright listed amongst the best performed players for North Melbourne’s VFL side.

Despite operating under constant pressure in Sunday’s nail-biting win over Coburg, Wright provided much-needed drive and penetration out of North’s back half.

“We had a number of good players after quarter time, but Sam is the one that played terrifically under siege in the first quarter. He kept us in the game,” coach David Loader told North Media.

The experienced 29-year-old was excellent at ground level, allowing fellow AFL-listed defenders Ben McKay and Majak Daw to repel attacks in the air.

Wright capped off an impressive outing with a foray forward, booting a late goal, in addition to his 19 disposals and 5 marks.

“That’s one of his A-grade qualities, his ability to use the ball,” Loader added.

“I thought he started to set us up in the second quarter and we moved from there.

“He’s starting to show a bit of form now and I’m really excited about the little wins we’ve had along the way. I was really pleased for him.

“There’s a number a of guys who played an important role, but he particularly stood out.”
