His farewell game didn’t exactly go to script, but Sam Wright will have fond memories of his final appearance in the royal blue and white.

The retiree injured his hamstring in the second quarter and was forced to watch on from the sidelines; that couldn't quell his excitement as North’s VFL team staged a brilliant comeback.

“I won’t let this incident ruin a fairytale,” Wright told North Media after the game.

The 136-gamer received the perfect send-off, with victory and guard of honour from both teams.

“It was really emotional. To have all my family and teammates as well was really good,” Wright said.

“I just couldn’t walk that quickly because of the ‘hammy’, so I probably lasted a lot longer than they would have liked, but it was good for me.

“I’ll look back, and I won’t even remember this (the injury) I think … it’s just the fact that it’s an 11-year career coming to an end, and something I’m really proud of."

Wright said he couldn’t be thankful enough for his time at Arden Street.

“I feel really blessed and glad that North gave me the opportunity to pick me up,” he added.

“Any time you pull on the blue and white, you don’t take it for granted. I’m just really happy I’ve spent my whole career at North.”
