Success on the menu

It’s a recipe for success; bringing mothers and their children together through food.

The Huddle’s Iskufilan program, which means ‘self-sufficient’ in Somali, is designed to foster self-sufficiency in women.

The monthly forum tackles a different theme or topic each month, with cooking the flavour of August.

Different speakers and experts are invited to the sessions to allow for a safe learning environment.

The prospect for a cooking session coming from consultation with the community.

It became obvious there was a lack of activities mums and their kids could attend together, that would help build relationships in a fun environment.

This worked both ways, with young people craving activities that incorporated their parents in a collaborative way, in which they could learn from one another.

Iskufilan, clearly not a half-baked program, and a sweet success by all accounts.

Iskufilan runs on the last Wednesday of every month, at The Huddle Wyndham and the last Friday of each month at The Huddle North Melbourne. Sessions go from 12:30pm–2:30pm. Email Nasteha.Mohamud@nmfc.com.au to find out more.
