2008 

After being drafted as a 21-year-old in 2007, Thompson debuts in Round 1 of 2008, playing 6 games in his first year.

2009

Establishes himself in the best 22 with a stellar year, finishing as the runner-up to Andrew Swallow in the Syd Barker Medal count.

2010

Is involved in an infamous incident with Barry Hall, with the Bulldog putting Thompson in a tight headlock. 

Plays all 22 games, including game 50 in Round 22 v Melbourne. 

2011

Plays all 22 games. 

2012 

Continues to build his reputation as one of the most consistent defenders in the competition. 

Records a career-high 39 disposals against the Giants. 

Runner-up in the Syd Barker Medal count. 

2013

Is named in leadership group. 

Enjoys the best season of his career, averaging 19.6 disposals and 6.5 marks per game.

Wins his first Syd Barker Medal and named in All-Australian team. 

2014 

Enjoys another solid year, playing 24 games as the Roos reach the preliminary final.

2015 

The Roos reach another preliminary final, with Thompson playing 24 games once again. 

Plays 150^th game v Geelong in Round 15 

2016 

Is an important member of the team that won the first nine games of the year, and plays 21 games for the season. 

2017 

Is one of the best on the ground in the big win over Adelaide in Round 7, collecting 24 disposals and 10 marks.

Plays 200^th AFL game in the final round v Brisbane.

2018 

The veteran defender continues to be one of the Roos’ most consistent players, and once again plays all 22 games. 

Takes a career-high 15 marks in win over Carlton in Round 4. 

2019 

Remains one of the Roos’ most reliable defenders.

Announces retirement at the end of the 2019 season.
