Trade divide over Hill

Fremantle speedster Brad Hill's intended passage to St Kilda has become decidedly more complex, with News Corp reporting that the Dockers rejected the Saints' offer of the No.6 pick and a future second-round selection.

Feeling as though negotiations had reached something of an impasse, a frustrated St Kilda then angered their Freo counterparts by trading picks 6 and 59 to Greater Western Sydney in exchange for selections 12 and 18.

The Dockers had earlier been adamant Hill was worth the No.6 pick, the Saints' first-rounder next year, and their third-round pick this year.

The No. 12 pick will now become central to St Kilda's bid for the 26-year-old, who still has two years to run on his contract with Freo but has reportedly received a five-year offere from the Saints at around $900,000 a season.

Splitting the sixth selection hasn't pleased the Dockers but it provides more flexibility in a busy trade period for the Saints as they also try to secure Port Adelaide talls Dougal Howard and Paddy Ryder, Sydney runner Zak Jones and possibly Richmond's small forward Dan Butler.

Ryder and Butler are likely to be acquired with late picks but Port wants a first-rounder for Howard while it could take a second-round pick to claim Jones.

St Kilda has offered 45-gamer Howard a five-year deal worth up to $3 million, according to News Corp.

Crows keep Crouch … for now

Adelaide's reigning club champion Brad Crouch is expected to remain a Crow for at least 2020, News Corp reports.

The 25-year-old midfielder will next year become a restricted free agent and, as AFL.com.au revealed last month, has attracted the interest of several rival clubs, including Geelong, as he seeks a deal in the vicinity of $5 million over five years.

The Cats would have significant money to throw at Crouch given they offered Tim Kelly about $800,000 a season, News Corp reports, before he accepted a deal with West Coast.

Crouch is believed to be keen to sign such a deal with the Crows, where he has formed a strong onball combination with his younger brother Matt, also a previous club champion.

However, any talks about a new deal will be on hold until Crouch has the opportunity to discuss future plans with the club's yet-to-be-appointed coach.

The Age reports that the Crows interviewed Collingwood assistant coach Robert Harvey on Wednesday, while Greater Western Sydney assistant Matthew Nicks and Hawthorn duo Scott Burns and Adem Yze are also among the candidates to replace Don Pyke. An appointment could be made by early next week.

For the love of Eddie

The prospect of playing alongside veteran Eddie Betts helped solidify wantaway Sun Jack Martin's desire to join Carlton, News Corp reports.

Martin, 24, was already impressed with the Blues but the seeming inevitability of the popular Betts' move back to the club from Adelaide proved a clincher for fellow indigenous player Martin.

Carlton has come under fire for their pursuit of Betts given he will turn 33 next month, but his effect on Martin is further proof of his all-round value.

Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs shot down a report that they had inquired about Blues little man Zac Fisher, who is contracted for another two years.
