Could another player come to Joe's rescue?

Essendon could push for a player to be involved in any potential Joe Daniher trade with Sydney, as the Bombers retain their hard-line stance on the star forward's future.

The Age reports that while Essendon remains reluctant to part ways with Daniher during this year's exchange period, it will push for his management group TLA Worldwide to find a way to include a player in any upcoming trade talks.

The report states that this player could come from either the Swans or a third club.

In addition, Essendon could still ask for Sydney's pick No.5 as well as Carlton's pick No.9, which the Swans could gain from a trade that sends Tom Papley to the Blues.

The Bombers continued to talk tough about Daniher's future on Friday, with list manager Adrian Dodoro telling Telstra AFL Trade Radio that the club planned on keeping their star father-son recruit.

"Everyone's got opinions and he's worth pick this or pick that, but you've got to look at the draft," Dodoro said.

"It's about replacing your key forward and if the key forward is not in the draft then the value of that player actually goes up.

"In this case he's irreplaceable for us at this point."

King's future remains clouded

Gold Coast has put a contract offer in front of its promising key-position star Ben King, as a number of Victorian clubs begin to consider luring the youngster back to his home state in 2020.

The Suns revealed on Friday that King has been offered an extension following a fine start to his AFL career that yielded 17 goals from 14 senior games throughout his maiden season.

"Absolutely we've put a contract offer in front of Ben," Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

"What I know is he's really happy. I've got all the reason to be confident, there."

The comments come as News Corp reports that the Western Bulldogs would be interested in bringing the 202cm teenager home at the end of next season, with St Kilda already making its plans to team King up with his twin brother Max at the Saints public this week.

"Ben is playing at the Gold Coast next year, (but) if he doesn't sign and looks to move next year then we'll talk to him," St Kilda footy boss Simon Lethlean said.

Giants reveal Patton demands

Talks regarding the future of Jon Patton are set to ramp up in the coming days, with Greater Western Sydney handing Hawthorn its list of demands for the injury-plagued forward.

The two clubs have been locked in discussions regarding Patton in recent days, with the 198cm forward already requesting a trade to the Hawks after an 89-game Giants career that included 130 goals.

However, Patton hasn't played since June 2018 due to another ACL injury – which required his third knee reconstruction – with the Giants set to ask the Hawks to hand over a third-round pick to secure the deal.

"I feel we're getting there," Giants list manager Jason McCartney told SEN Radio.

"They haven't been unreasonable … Jon, in his position, he's fit and healthy. The reason he didn't play the back-half of the year was more a mental thing.

"Our position is we're after a mid-third-round pick and we're trying to work that out with Hawthorn and what they've got and what can go back the other way."

Complicating matters slightly is the fact Hawthorn gave up one of its two third-round selections in a trade with Melbourne for defender Sam Frost on Friday.

The Hawks now have picks No.11, 30, 42, 61, 87 and 92 to work with.
