North Melbourne says a pick swap with Melbourne will give the club more flexibility and value across the next two Drafts with a highly valuable three for one deal agreed to by the club’s list management committee on Tuesday afternoon.

The Roos traded out a single pick, 8 in 2019, and received three in return including 26, 50 and a future first round pick in 2020.

North national recruiting manager, Mark Finnigan, said the club was always open to seeing what value it could get for pick 8.

“The currency we have obtained for that single pick is highly valuable for us now and in the future,” he said.

“Three selections for one was very appealing and we feel we can now turn our picks into something really promising whether that be players, or better picks this year and next year."

North now holds picks 26, 27, 45, 50, 73, 84 in this year's Draft and looks to next year already with two first rounders in hand.

“This allows us to have two picks inside the first round next year; something we’ve never had before to my knowledge,” Finnigan added.

“We’re excited about the flexibility this deal affords us, particularly with the introduction of live trading and extended pick trading.

“We weighed up trading pick 8 with respect to this year’s talent pool and the evenness of the Draft, and we were comfortable moving back in the order.

"We are confident it’s the right move and like what it means for us in 2020, but also feel our picks will still give us great value and the players we want this year.”
