Shaw: Bonar fits the bill

Rhyce Shaw was gifted the perfect birthday present on Wednesday night, as he and the North Melbourne recruiting team secured the services of GWS’ Aiden Bonar.

“I’m really pleased with the trade, and I think it opens up a lot of possibilities for us,” Shaw told the media after the trade.

The first-round selection from 2017 has found it tough going to break into the Giants’ midfield, and was eager for more opportunity.

“He was pick 11 a couple of years ago, so to get him the way we did was fantastic.

“As a club, he fit what we were about; getting in a young player with talent and versatility.

“He’s a little bit raw, but he hasn’t really been tested yet, and I’m really keen to test him out and see where he goes.

At 188cm and blessed with elite physical attributes, Shaw is excited about what Bonar can bring to North.

“He’s a big inside body, but we’ll see how it goes and where he fits for us.

“He’s versatile and can play numerous positions for us.”

Bonar is close friends with the Roos’ top pick from the 2017 draft, Luke Davies-Uniacke.

“It’s worked out well, and I think LDU is pretty happy to have his mate back.”
