An abrupt end to an otherwise memorable campaign; the AFLW season was suspended just as the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos had edged that little bit closer to the dream of premiership success.

It was a bitter pill to swallow, but will only drive the team to greater things in 2021, according to coach Scott Gowans.

“We’ll get fitter, better and stronger for next year,” Gowans said during the Best and Fairest on Friday night.

“We must maintain the rage. We’ve got to keep it going.

“We’ve got to keep focused on our goal and don’t waver. We’ve got to get back to work in a few weeks’ time, the best we can.

“We must prepare with a hunger and a passion to be the best.”

With a 6-1 record across the season, North was able to better its effort from 2019 (5-2).

In the process, the girls created history.

“Winning our first ever final against Collingwood was an incredible achievement and shows how far we’ve grown as a team in a short period of time,” captain Emma Kearney added.

“Although it was devastating for the season to end like it did, everyone involved at the club should be proud of the efforts of this team.”

Gowans echoed those sentiments.

“I’m proud of the team and leaders within it. I’m proud of the way we were the benchmark of the competition, but still had seven debutants.”

“Congratulations to all the players; it’s been an amazing season.”
