Despite copping a knock to his shoulder against Essendon last weekend, Cam Zurhaar is expected be available for the Round 19 clash with Carlton.

Zurhaar looked to be in some discomfort at various times throughout the contest against the Bombers, but GM Football Brady Rawlings says the forward’s shoulder issue is something he should be able to play through.

“Most players are carrying some type of soreness at this time of year. Cam’s pulled up pretty well from the game,” Rawlings told North Media.

“He did a good job to play on the weekend. We’ll see how he goes this week at training and we’re anticipating he’ll be able to play.

“However, we’ll still need to assess him to see if he’s available or not.”

Jack Mahony was substituted out of the Essendon game with a shoulder injury of his own, being replaced by Atu Bosenavulagi for part of the final term.

Rawlings says while Mahony could be available, no risk will be taken with his fitness and availability.

“Jack will be a test this week. It’s a six-day break so we need to assess how he’s going to pull up. He’s going to be sore for a couple of days, no doubt,” he said.

“As with all the young players we won’t be taking any risks with him.

“If he’s still got too much pain to play or he’s at risk of injuring it further then we’ll make that call.”

Robbie Tarrant is another player who looked to have moments of discomfort against the Bombers.

“It’s a bit of soreness for Robbie and he’ll be a test this week as well,” Rawlings said.

Tom Powell looks set to progress to running this week, with the young midfielder being absent from the side since Round 14.

Due to the nature of Powell’s injury and the age of the midfielder, Rawlings says he won’t be rushed back into the side.

“He had some pubic overload not long after the bye … he’s doing some exercise at the moment and we’ll look to start to ramp him up a little bit and potentially run him this week,” Rawlings said.

“It’s a day-by-day scenario in seeing how he pulls up from activity at the moment.

“He’s going to play a lot of footy for our footy club, so we want to take it nice and slow to make sure he’s here for a long time.”

Taylor Garner looks set to return in the coming weeks after progressing in his recovery from an ankle injury.

Garner suffered the injury against GWS in Round 13, after kicking 7 goals in his first three appearances of the season.

“He’s (Garner) running at the moment but he won’t be playing this week. We’ll continue to progress him with his conditioning and we’ll make sure he pulls up well from each time he runs,” Rawlings said.

“He’s progressing reasonably well and should be playing some football in the next couple of weeks.”

Aidan Corr still has some chance of playing competitive football again this season, as he looks to shake off the toe infection that has derailed his 2021 season.

After impressing in the first two games of the season, Corr picked up the infection following the Round 2 clash with Gold Coast, with the club putting his health first.

“He’s (Corr) progressing well, each week he gets better. There’s still a slight chance he gets back before the end of the year, but if there was any risk involved we wouldn’t take it,” Rawlings added.

“Given he’s had such a long period out of the game, we’ve got to take is slow and make sure he’s not at any risk if we were to put him out there to play.

“The next two or three weeks we’ll see how he’s progressing and make a call from there.

After missing last week due to soreness, Kyron Hayden is expected to be available.
