A bona fide North Melbourne legend, John Blakey played 224 of his 359 career games for the club and was an integral part of the 1996 and 1999 Premiership teams.
Since then Blakey has worked with some of the most accomplished coaching minds in the game and was involved in both the 2003 and 2012 premiership sides, with Brisbane and Sydney respectively.
Working under 1999 premiership teammate John Longmire since his appointment at the Swans in 2010, Blakey was appointed Head of Development and Coaching Director in 2015. In that time, he worked closely with Sydney’s NEAFL program and oversaw their run to the 2018 Grand Final.
Having gained almost 20-years of coaching experience, Blakey will rekindled his association with North in the 2021 season as senior assistant coach, and will continue taking charge of the defensive line in 2022.
