The Spring Huddle Holidays program started up this week, and despite being online, young people still got the chance to participate in the holiday fun.

The seniors (aged 13-18) kicked off the week’s activities with an Online Customer Service Course, run by the Institute for Further Education and Training. 15 participants joined the interactive session and learnt a bunch of valuable skills that they can use to build up their resume and in future workplaces.

The online course will run again in the second week of the holidays to offer more young people the opportunity to upskill.

One senior participant said, “This was a very informative session. It was interesting and I learnt so much”

Tuesday saw the junior (aged eight-12) participants getting up and active in their homes with an Online Basketball Slam. 30 gift packs were sent out to young people containing sport goodies from HART Sports and 11 of those packs were put into action on the day. The session was facilitated by Billy Akalo from Wyndham Basketball Association, who encouraged the energetic young people to flex their basketball skills via Zoom.

The middle of the week meant another exciting day for the junior participants with a Mammal Encounters session run by the folks at Reptile Encounters. While Werribee Zoo is closed, Reptile Encounters taught the young people how to care for Australia’s beautiful wildlife, as well as some sharing some interesting facts. Did you know a barn owl can rotate its head 270 degrees?!

An enthusiastic junior participant said, “Thank you for teaching us and showing us the animals. I learnt so much”.

The activities for week one of the Spring Huddle Holidays will be topped off with an exciting Soccer Skills Session, for both junior and senior participants. With participants receiving some great gift packs, staff from The Huddle will run some skills based activities, followed by a soccer quiz and lastly a fantastic Q & A session with players from Western United Football Club.

The Spring Huddle Holidays will continue next week with even more awesome sessions planned ahead for The Huddle’s participants.
