Jackson Archer is the latest addition to North Melbourne’s list through the father/son drafting process, but he is unlikely to be the last.

With Archer's arrival in November's NAB AFL Draft, the Kangaroos now boast three players selected with father/son picks, along with one father/daughter.

Luke McDonald (son of Donald), arrived at pick No.8 in 2013, followed by Bailey Scott (son of 1996 premiership winner Robert) with pick 49 in 2018, then Archer (son of Shinboner of the Century Glenn) with pick 59 in November's NAB AFL Draft, while Amy Smith (daughter of Shaun) is a versatile member of the club’s AFLW team.

Answering a question from Kangaroos fan Andrew on the latest Member Q&A, presented by AIA Vitality, National Recruiting Manager Mark Finnigan said his team is keeping its eye on a number of potential future father/son selections.

Cooper Harvey is front of mind for many North fans, not only because his father Brent, better known as Boomer, played 427 games for the club and won the 1999 premiership along with five Syd Barker Medals, but because Cooper's draft year is next year.

But Finnigan says Harvey isn’t the only player the club is watching develop.

“After next year, in the years following there’s Will Crocker (son of Darren), Byron Pickett Junior, River Stevens (son of Anthony), the McCartney boys (sons of Jason), and then a little bit further back there are (the sons of Brady) Rawlings, (Michael) Firrito and (Drew) Petrie," Finnigan said. 

“Hopefully Covid-permitting we’re able to run our father/son academy and get them all in.”
