The countdown is on for Kangaroos fans - there are officially 106 days until the club's 2022 AFL campaign kicks off, after the fixture for round one was released on Saturday.

North Melbourne will play old foes Hawthorn in the club's season opener in a 1.10pm AEDT clash at the MCG.

It will be the first time the Roos have played in front of a crowd at the MCG in almost three years, since round three, 2019. That game was also against Hawthorn, with the Hawks triumphing by 16 points.

Forward Cameron Zurhaar was the hero when the sides last met in round nine this year. He kicked four goals as the Kangaroos surged back from 32 points down to take a thrilling seven-point win.

The AFL expects to release the rest of the 2022 fixture later this month.
