Co-captain Jy Simpkin is recovering well from the concussion he suffered during the AAMI Community Series match against the Saints, but is yet to have a confirmed return date locked in.

The club has taken a conservative approach with the onballer, given it was his third concussion in under 12 months.

"Over the past 10 days, (Simpkin) has graduated his exercise and recovery program in line with AFL guidelines and on Tuesday he merged into the skills session with the main group in a non-contact capacity," head of performance Kevin White told NMFC Media.

"The medical team will have Jy re-tested against his baseline concussion data going into next week, which will determine his ability to proceed into full-contact training and game availability moving forward."

"Griffin is progressing nicely at present as he builds through an intensive four-week block of athletic development in both the gym and on-field," White said.

"The plan will be to build his leg strength and power across this block as well as increase his agility and higher-intensity football function."

The Roos face GWS Giants in their season opener at ENGIE Stadium on Saturday.
