Forward Alice O'Loughlin returned to action and Irish star Vikki Wall touched down as the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos tuned up for Round 1 with an intraclub at Arden St on Saturday morning.
Here are four takeaways from the game, as the Kangaroos turn their eyes to their season opener against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
Star forward returns
Alice O'Loughlin was one of the Kangaroos' breakout stars last season, kicking 19 goals on her way to her first All-Australian selection.
A thigh injury kept her on the sidelines for the club's practice hitouts against the Western Bulldogs and Essendon, so Saturday morning's successful return could not have been better timed.
Playing with strapping on her right thigh, she showed no signs of discomfort, snapping cleanly around her body for a second-quarter goal and creating several other chances.
Wall touches down
Multi-code star Vikki Wall has remained in Ireland during the Kangaroos' pre-season, on Gaelic football duties with Meath.
Having played in Meath's All-Ireland Final defeat to Dublin only five days ago, she flew into Melbourne on Thursday night.
Still shaking off the effects of jetlag, the hard-hitting forward spent the intraclub on the sidelines running light training drills.
No love lost in Roo v Roo battles
Though the intraclub was treated as a training exercise, there was plenty of physicality and feeling on display as the 'blue' team took on the 'pink' at Arden St.
Kangaroo fans watching on were treated to the rare sight of captain Jas Garner mowing down vice-captain Ash Riddell on the half-back line.
Promising Irish import Blaithin Bogue crunched defender Eliza Shannon in the third quarter, while the indestructible Tess Craven took a number of contested grabs under considerable pressure at both ends of the ground.
Ariana grand
Trade arrival Ariana Hetherington kicked two for the blue team, capping off an impressive pre-season in her new colours.
Recruited from Fremantle, Hetherington is a ruck option who has shown in recent weeks that she can also play an important role up forward.
She was again an imposing target in the intraclub, suggesting she may feature in coach Darren Crocker's Round 1 plans, particularly with star ruck Emma King likely to be sidelined for the side's season opener.
Among the other new Roos in contention for Round 1, experienced defender Eilish Sheerin impressed in her first full hitout, while second-year player Ella Slocombe had her best pre-season outing, capping her day with a goal after slick work from Garner and Riddell.
