North Melbourne may have just launched its ‘Member Get Member’ program, but one little supporter didn’t need any prompting, instead using her own initiative to attract new fans.

Six-year old Alysha Torcutti penned an open letter to fellow Grade One students at Killara Primary School in Sunbury, encouraging them to get on board the might Roos.

“It would be so good if every (one) went for North Melbourne and I’ll explain why,” she wrote.

“Firstly we have Majak (Daw) on our team and he is so good.

“Secondly I like Kangaroos because they don’t get upset when they lose.

“Finally they are always happy, thrilled, excited, joyful, overjoyed, crazy, brave.

“So will you go for Kangaroos or stay your team?”

How could anyone resist?

Alysha’s father Robert says he was proud of his daughter when he read her letter.

“Alysha’s teacher was so impressed with her writing that she brought it to the attention of my wife Dea and I. The teacher even asked if she could share it with her teaching colleagues,” Torcutti said.

“Alysha’s going into Grade Two this year and I know she’s just as excited to tell all her friends at school about her favourite footy team and favourite player Majak.”

The family’s love for North Melbourne runs deep with Robert and Dea supporting the club all their lives - now daughters Alysha and Marni are following in their footsteps.

“I remember barracking for the Kangas back in 1973 when Ron Barassi took over as coach,” Robert said.

“Our girls really had no other option than to go for North. We’re all joining up as members again this year and we have a very positive and optimistic outlook for the Roos in 2014…we can’t wait to get back to the footy.”
