Daniel Wells says North Melbourne has nothing to lose, and everything to gain as it heads into a gruelling final month of the season.

The dynamic midfielder understands the challenge the likes of Adelaide (at AAMI Stadium), Essendon and Hawthorn present, but is confident the Roos are up to the task.

"We've still got a way to go to get back our respect, but we're giving ourselves every opportunity to beat these teams," Wells told The Mercury’s James Bresnehan at a kids’ clinic in Hobart on Sunday.

"The win on Friday night (against Geelong) backs up all of the work we have done over the course of the year, and the game-style that we have trained and played all year. It's actually a pretty good game style and when we do follow it for four quarters, you can see the result is there."

At eight wins and ten losses, North’s hopes of playing in September are slim, but Wells says there's still plenty to strive for.

"There's a small chance to make finals but the most important thing is to continue to play the way we want to play and if finals happen, they happen. If not, we've only got ourselves to blame,” he added.

"I think over the past two seasons we've handled ourselves pretty well (against the top teams) and just fallen short a couple of times.”

North’s win over the Cats on Friday night was a big step forward according to Wells, and one he and his team-mates will take valuable lessons from.

"We will learn from Friday night and the previous four or five games where we have lost by less than a kick. It's a learning curve but we are heading in the right direction."

Wells joined Ryan Bastinac, Michael Firrito, Lachie Hansen, Todd Goldstein and over 500 junior Roos at North Hobart Oval.

The North stars also paid a special visit to Ronald McDonald House and met local supporters and club partners.

Wells will appear on Fox Footy's On the Couch on Monday night from 8.30pm EST.
