Robbie Tarrant has again staked a claim for a senior call-up after a strong performance for Werribee on Saturday.

While the Tigers were comprehensively beaten by Melbourne affiliate Casey, Tarrant was a revelation in defence, finishing the game with 23 disposals and nine marks.

“He was a shining light down there really,” Development Manager Ben Dyer told NMFC.com.au.

“He defended really well. He wasn’t beaten in the one-on-one contest. He bodied up well and spoilt well.

“When he hit the ground he just scrapped really well and tackled and like last week used it really well on the way out.”

Tarrant lined up on former Roo Cameron Pedersen for much of the day.

“It was pretty hard to fault his game really,” Dyer said of Tarrant.

“All-round it was just a really solid game for him.”

Playing in his first competitive match since joining North, Will Fordham had no trouble finding his feet.

“I really liked his game actually,” Dyer said.

“Offensively, Werribee didn’t really challenge them (Casey) at all, and they were pretty one-paced through the middle; Will was probably the only player that through hard run was able to offer an outlet.

"That was his first game of the year, but the pace of it (VFL) didn’t seem to trouble him.

“He looked like he was pretty comfortable with his first game at senior level. It was a pretty promising effort.”

Against a strong Scorpions’ on-ball brigade, Ed Vickers-Willis (eight possessions) enjoyed another valuable learning experience.

“He was strong inside and he scrapped well, but just didn’t get a lot of opportunity on the outside,” Dyer said.

“It’s valuable time in the middle for him at VFL level, so he’ll be better for it.”

Up against Melbourne duo Jake Spencer and Max Gawn in the ruck, Majak Daw (eight disposals, 20 hit-outs) found the going tough.

“They (Werribee) got belted inside by big Spencer and Max Gawn,” Dyer added.

“He (Daw) really lowered his colours early on to those two.

“He fixed it up a bit after quarter-time, but the hit-outs he did win he didn’t really get good value on.

“He did follow up and tackle well though.”

Scott McMahon battled away on a tough day for the defenders, finishing with 14 disposals.
