Sam Wright will have surgery on his injured ankle later this week and is expected to miss between six to eight weeks.

The defender suffered a high left ankle sprain in the third quarter of Friday’s win over the Tigers and was forced to sit out the rest of the game.

North Director of Football Geoff Walsh said it was a disappointing outcome for the 25-year-old.

“Sam will go under the knife in the next few days to repair ligaments in his left ankle,” Walsh told NMFC.com.au.

“After having just spent a month on the sidelines having injured his opposite ankle, it’s a tough blow for Sam but we expect him back in time for any potential finals’ campaign.

“We’re hopeful he’ll only miss six to eight weeks.”
