North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow says his side is confident it can turn around its current run of form.

The number 9 said while the club’s past month had been disappointing, the club was still in a good position thanks to its strong start to the year.

“We’re still in good shape,” Swallow said on Tuesday.

“It was pretty positive coming out of the review, everyone can see a way forward and we’ve just got to come out and rectify it.”

The Roos will be well and truly under the spotlight with a return to Friday night football against Collingwood at Etihad Stadium.

“It’s a great opportunity, we love playing Friday night footy,” he said.

“If you didn’t want to embrace a challenge, you’d just quit. What better time to (turn it around) than Friday night under the spotlight.”

Swallow said the team knew it had to go “back to basics” to help rectify its poor run of form.

“I think the basics of our game are still there, we’re probably just not executing it as well as what we have and that pressure we were applying in the first nine games is just that little bit off,” he added.

“It’s a fine balance, football. A lot of things add up to losses, so if we can rectify those, we’ll be right.

“Our focus is just to get a couple of wins to make sure finals are guaranteed and after that we can worry about where we finish.”

Swallow joined North Melbourne’s first and second year players at a defensive driving course at Sandown on Tuesday, with the club’s major sponsor Mazda providing the cars for the day.

The skipper said the day provided some important lessons, as well as a few laughs.

“It was good fun, getting out there and having a bit of a spin around in the cars,” he said.

The importance of being safe on the road was also top of mind, with plenty of briefings for the players, as well as practical activities in the cars.
