While the use of academy picks could very well shuffle the order, North goes in to this month’s NAB AFL Draft with its earliest pick since 2013.

The Roos hold the 11th selection overall, as well as picks 32, 33 and 80 for November 25’s Draft.

As the countdown continues, NMFC.com.au is taking a look back at the history of each of the key selections on the night.

Pick 11

As with most selections, pick 11 was very much hit and miss in the opening years of the Draft-based system.

Just two players lined up for double-figure appearances in the first eight editions of the draft, but the success rate has improved significantly since.

North has only once held the 11th pick, in 1990 when it drafted Danny Sexton. He never played an AFL game.

Brad Johnson and Lenny Hayes share the honours as the most memorable selections just outside the top ten, with the Johnson playing 364 games for the Bulldogs and Hayes 297 for St Kilda.

Darren Glass was a star defender for the Eagles and played in the ’06 premiership, while the likes of Jason Saddington (Sydney & Carlton), Jason Winderlich (Essendon) and Beau Waters (West Coast) were more than serviceable for their respective teams.

While North’s history with pick 11 isn’t exactly memorable, don’t forget Shaun Higgins was originally taken with the selection by the Bulldogs in 2005, before donning the royal blue and white in 2015.
