North Melbourne captain Jack Ziebell says Majak Daw will be given every opportunity to lock down a regular senior spot in 2017.

Daw played the last five games last season and was one of few standouts in the Elimination Final against Adelaide, booting four goals.

Returning from a meniscus injury, he’s aiming to play in the latter stages of the JLT Community Series.

“His highlight reel is quite outstanding and what he can do in the air and also on the ground with his ability and his athleticism but the team stuff Maj does really well is why we love him playing,” Ziebell said on SEN.

“This year we’re going to look to give him an extended opportunity in the team. You look throughout his career and he’s sort of been in and out of the side a lot for various reasons and personnel was one of those reasons last year with a couple of senior guys.

“We’re really going to look to Maj this year to step up and take his spot by the scruff of the neck and really consolidate his spot in the senior side. Hopefully he can do that.”

Two players likely to get their chance against Sydney on Sunday, Ryan Clarke and Mason Wood will be hoping to step up again in 2017.

“We’ll look to get them into the side really early and consolidate their positions and for them to play good roles for us this year,” Ziebell said.

North will name its 29-man squad at midday on Thursday.
