He’s only been at his new home since October, but Dom Tyson can sense there’s something special about the North Melbourne Football Club.

“You get the feel that there’s a good heritage here and past players are really proud of the club and what it stands for,” Tyson told the media on Friday.

“Having coaches that are past players like Crocker and Tudor, you can really get a feel for that Shinboner culture.”

"The imagery around the walls and internal buildings are really good from that late 90s era which was when I was a six or seven-year-old, I remember watching North in those days.

After crossing from Melbourne in the 2018 Trade Period, Tyson’s move couldn’t have gone more smoothly.

“It’s been a good transition. The boys have been really welcoming, and obviously coming in with a few other recruits has probably helped me,” he said.

“I guess it’s sort of the guys who have come across that you lean towards straight away.  Aaron Hall has been good. He’s come across at a similar age as (Jared) Polec and (Jasper) Pittard.”

It’s not just the new recruits that have helped him settle in, with some previous relationships making him feel at home.

“I knew Luke McDonald, I went to school with him, so it’s been helpful knowing a couple of the boys coming in, just to show you where to go and little things like that,” Tyson said.

“I’m at my third club now so I’ve done the move before, so it hasn’t been too daunting at all.”

Tyson has impressed in his time at North so far, and is loving his involvement in pre-season.

“When you start getting into the crunch of the season, it helps, but pre-season is about building relationships, training and just learning the game plan,” he said.

“I’ve been trying to do as much as I can at the moment. I hope it holds me in good stead for Round 1.”

The new recruit was influential in the Roos’ match-simulation session on Friday, finding plenty of the footy in his familiar on-ball role.
