North Melbourne has called up Abby Favell to its AFLW squad as a replacement player, after Amy Smith was placed on the club's inactive list.

Smith tore her ACL at training earlier this month, with the Kangaroos signing Favell out of the VFLW program.

The 23-year-old made the move from Geelong’s VFLW program ahead of 2026 and has been a consistent performer at VFLW level for several years.

Playing as a winger and midfielder, Favell has averaged over 21 disposals, eight tackles, and four clearances this season.

North Melbourne general manager of women’s football Erin Lorenzini said the signing is credit to Favell’s development since joining the club.

“It’s upsetting to lose Amy for the season, and we’re with her every step of the way as she starts her rehab,” Lorenzini said.

“To have someone of Abby’s quality in our VFLW squad to replace Amy is a testament to our whole program.

“We’re looking forward to integrating her into the AFLW program.”

Head of VFLW and talent Flynn Loft said he’s confident Favell will fit seamlessly into the AFLW squad.

“Abby’s made great strides in a short period of time at the club, and has worked incredibly hard on and off the field,” Loft said.

“She's shown a willingness to consistently play to her role in our system, which is a quality our AFLW program prides itself on."
