North Melbourne is set to use five picks at this year’s National Draft.

Speaking on NMFC ON-AIR, Cameron Joyce, General Manager of Football Operations and List Management revealed the club’s plans for Tuesday night.

“This year (2015) we’ve gone with 40 on our primary list and four rookies, but we’re going to go 39 on our primary list and five rookies (in 2016),” Joyce said.

North currently has 34 players on its senior list, meaning it will utilise picks 17, 26, 28, 46 and 67 at the draft to take that number to 39.

The club will finalise its list at Friday week’s Rookie Draft.

“Robin Nahas, Will Fordham and Braydon Preuss will be our three rookies and we’ll have two new rookies,” Joyce said.

“We’re keen to obviously draft Majak Daw back as one of those rookies.”

Joyce said North will use its first pick (17) on a “best-available” criteria.

“With our pick 17, it’s a first round pick and we think being true to our order we’ll get a really good quality player.

“From there we’ll try and balance off a little needs with having four more selections.

“In terms of our needs, if we can add some speed and run around the midfield and some players that can play multi-roles and have got some versatility will be what we are looking for.

“(And) potentially a key-forward, they’re not easy to find as well.”

While some rate this year’s draft crop weaker than previous years, Joyce has full confidence in North’s recruiting team.

“Bryce (Lewis – Recruiting Manager) and the boys have done a tremendous job putting a list together and whilst people say it’s quite a shallow draft, having those three picks inside 28, in terms of how we rank them as a footy club we should potentially get our 21st or 22nd ranked player at 28,” he said.

“For us to net three players within our 22 or 23 … if you can’t find 20 good players in the country then we’re not doing our jobs.”
