With the season ‘back on a knife’s edge’, as Darren Crocker put it, Saturday afternoon against the Giants becomes an extremely important match.

A victory will even the ledger at six wins and six losses heading into the bye, while a loss will leave North with a mountain of work to do after the resumption. It makes selection an even more important time than normal considering the injuries currently being dealt with by Greater Western Sydney.

Defenders

Aaron Mullett collected a team-high 28 disposals for North Ballarat on the weekend, with his ability to find the ball coming in for praise from Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown.

Now with a month of football under his belt in the VFL, the left-footer could provide his trademark run and carry out of North’s defensive 50 if he is selected to play his first senior game of 2015.

Meanwhile, Luke McDonald was another defender who was aggressive in possession while in the VFL.

While his Werribee side fell to the Magpies, McDonald impressed in his quest to win back his senior spot.

Mason Wood also played the majority of his game in the middle for Werribee on Sunday. The last of his six AFL matches this season came in Round 8 against Fremantle, before returning to the VFL last week for his first game in a fortnight.

Then there's a certain inclusion, if fit, Nick Dal Santo sure to push his case at training on Wednesday to prove his availability.

Forwards

With injuries to GWS defenders Joel Patfull and Phil Davis, the Giants will have to call on their depth on Saturday afternoon. While they are in the envious position of having plenty of quality to call upon, it does raise the question of how North will attempt to structure up in its own forward line.

Aaron Black returned to form for the Roosters last week. Although he kicked 2.5, his work rate was impressive and he could have easily ended up with five or six majors if he'd kicked straight.

Majak Daw also provided a presence in his limited time up forward against Collingwood. Even though he had a quality defender in Ben Reid as his opponent, the two had an absorbing contest in the first half.

However, Daniel Currie’s injury changed plans and Daw was forced to spend the second half as Werribee’s main ruckman.
