The following letter and photos were sent in by long-time member and supporter John Williams from Eltham.

John travels each year to visit his sponsor child and his community in Mozambique Africa.

He packs an abundance of Kangaroos’ merchandise for his journey to the other side of the globe to share his love for North.

On behalf of the children attending the Serralhara Technical School in Tete and the local World Vision staff in Mozambique I pass on their thanks to the North Melbourne Football Club.

The trip this year was a great success as Qantas gave me an extra 23kigs in luggage and I needed that due to the donations from industry and sporting bodies.

One of the main highlights of the trip this year was to see how my sponsor child was adapting after leaving his village of 120 people to live in a town 90 miles away of 100,000, so he can further his education.

The child has never been 10 miles away from home, had no power, no running water, just the basic essentials so it was a life changing experience which I have agreed to fully support financially until he is able to work.

I am pleased to say he is adapting well and is doing first year in technical school and living with a teacher who gies him extra tutoring after hours so he can catch up to children his own age.

As this is an unfinished journey, I will be returning again next year as the school plans to hold an inner school sports event. I have been asked to present the trophies in Portuguese which will be a challenge. They are thinking of calling the trophy the 'North Melbourne Flying Kangaroo'.

I have attached some photos of the trip where the children had made posters prior to my visit thanking the support given by the Kangaroos.

North Melbourne, thank you very much for your assistance putting smiles on the children’s photos.

Take care.

Go Roos!
John Williams
