North Melbourne has agreed to trade forward Aaron Edwards to Richmond. The final details will be revealed when official paperwork is lodged with the AFL later today.

The 28-year-old spent six years at Aegis Park after North selected him with pick 82 in the 2006 National Draft. He played 78 games for the Kangaroos, kicking 122 goals with a personal best of 6 against Melbourne in Round 8, 2011.

After a career high 36 goals in 2011, Edwards was on the outer mid-way through 2012 and was unable to force his way back in with the three-pronged forward structure of Drew Petrie, Lachlan Hansen and Robbie Tarrant working well.

“Aaron worked extremely hard to turn his career around with us and we hope he enjoys his time with Richmond,” chief of football Donald McDonald said.

“He has grown not only as a player, but also as a leader and he was a valuable contributor to our club. We wish him all the best.”

Richmond will be Edwards' third club after he spent time at West Coast at the beginning of his career.
