Sam Gibson won the Damien Drum medal for best on ground in Werribee's upset 37-point win over a previously undefeated Geelong outfit in the VFL on Friday night.

An incredible 40 possession, three goal game from Gibson was perfect timing with Darren Crocker, Brett Allison and Shane Watson watching on at Avalon Oval in Werribee.

Gibson's work in the clearances were crucial on a night where heavy dew made for difficult conditions.

The Tigers' 33-point quarter time lead was whittled down to single figures twice in the third quarter and it was Gibson, Malcolm Lynch (17 possessions) and Ben Warren that stood up at different stages to gain back the momentum. Gibson was partucluarly outstanding and booted a splendid goal from the boundary just before the three quarter time siren.

Werribee's four unanswered goals in the final quarter was highlighted by two from Robbie Tarrant, who finished the game with three, and a quality left foot finish on the run from Ben McKinley who also collected 18 possessions.

Nathan Grima got through another full game and came up with several big plays in the last quarter. Alongside him, Brad Mangan and Cam Pedersen were both solid with 18 and 24 possessions respectively.

Development coach John Lamont praised Will Sierakowski's game, calling his 20 possession effort 'his best game of the year'. Lachlan Hansen also received a special mention.

"Lachie's effort to take three big marks early in the last quarter was significant. It enabled us to have another rotation which proved crucial in the end."

Ben Speight picked up a lot of the ball with 28 possessions and Majak Daw was solid against a seasoned opponent in Orren Stephenson. Daw collected 10 hitouts to go with his nine possessions and was impressive with his physicality in the contest.

Werribee's victory evens its season at two wins and two losses heading into a home game against Williamstown next Sunday.
