MAJAK Daw has been elevated to North Melbourne's senior list, making it increasingly likely the exciting ruck/forward will become the first Sudanese-born player to make his AFL debut.

Daw, 21, has spent the past three years on North's rookie list and re-signed with the Kangaroos last October until the end of 2013.

Under AFL rules, a player cannot spend more than three years on a club's rookie list, so North had to elevate Daw to keep him at the club next season.

North football chief Donald McDonald told AFL.com.au on Monday Daw was ready to push for a senior spot in 2013.

"Majak had to earn the right to be elevated and he did that. His form in the VFL was really good," McDonald said.

"We're really excited that he's finally now on our senior list.

"In terms of his fitness and knowledge of the game, he's ready to play senior footy now. But Majak will dictate whether he earns a spot or not."

Daw's elevation follows his impressive 2012 season with North's VFL affiliate Werribee.

Daw's year got off to a rocky start when he suffered a knee injury and was then suspended from North in February for breaching team rehabilitation protocols and lying to coach Brad Scott about a night out.

Daw returned to play 17 games for Werribee and star in its preliminary final loss to Geelong. Daw had two goals, 23 hit-outs and eight tackles against the Cats' VFL team.

McDonald said Daw's ability to play in the ruck and as a marking forward could make him an attractive option as a support ruckman next season.

North also confirmed on Monday veteran defender Michael Firrito had turned his back on unrestricted free agency to re-sign for 2013, while announcing mature-age recruit Sam Gibson had been promoted after re-signing for the next two seasons and rookie Aaron Mullett would be elevated to North's senior list.

In re-signing Firrito, North ensured it would not lose any players to free agency this season. The Roos' only other free agent in 2012, former skipper Brent Harvey, re-signed for 2013 in late August.

McDonald chose not to comment on whether North would be an active player in this year's Gillette AFL Free Agency Period.

After an injury-affected 2011, Firrito bounced back with an outstanding season in 2012 and was one of eight Roos who played every game.

Firrito, who turns 29 in November, will enter his 11th season at Aegis Park in 2013.

Gibson, 26, was a revelation in his first season at North, giving the Roos' midfield valuable spread in the second half of 2012 with his elite endurance.

Drafted from the Box Hill Hawks with pick No.63 in last year's rookie draft, Gibson debuted in round 12 against Gold Coast, and did not miss another match for the season, averaging 21.6 possessions in 13 games.

Mullett, 20, played six senior games in 2012, his second season on North's rookie list. The left-footed half-back made his AFL debut in round 22, 2011, playing North's final three games that season.
