The son of former Kangaroos player Donald McDonald, ‘LMac’ became a father-son selection with the eighth pick of the 2013 AFL Draft.

It proved an inspired selection, as McDonald went on to play 23 games in his debut campaign for the club, cementing himself as a mainstay on the half-back flank in the team’s run to the preliminary final.

In 2020 the No.11 claimed his first Syd Barker Medal as he swept the club awards, and in 2023 he fulfilled a boyhood dream as he was named co-captain, a position he held for two seasons.

2024 saw McDonald hit the 200-game milestone in Round 21.
