North Melbourne defender Max Warren is set to make his debut on Saturday night.

Upgraded to the senior list on Wednesday, the 21-year old received the news from Brad Scott following training at Arden Street.

"It just sort of came out of the blue. I got elevated just at the start of training and thought, wow this is all happening," Warren told NMFC.com.au.

Recruited by the club in the 2011 Rookie Draft, Warren has worked hard for his opportunity, plying his trade at VFL affiliate North Ballarat.

"It's really satisfying. I've spent three years on the list now and it's been a lot of hard work and a lot of dedication and doing the right things, so hopefully I can bring it into the AFL level."

Playing predominantly as a defensive-stopper, he’s claimed the scalps of Steven Motlop and Daniel Giansiracusa amongst a host of seasoned campaigners this season.

With the Lions boasting several dangerous small forwards, Warren will face a tough initiation at the GABBA.

He was upgraded in place of Joel Tippett, who tore his pectoral muscle against Geelong in Round 10.
