Majak Daw could be back to full training sooner than expected as the 22-year old began running for the first time this week, after undergoing knee surgery back in August last year.

With a return date yet to be determined, football director Geoff Walsh says the signs so far are pleasing for Daw.

"Majak is progressing slightly ahead of schedule, which is fantastic, and our fitness and medical staff are pleased with where he's at," Walsh told the Herald Sun.

"He's made the transition from inside the gym, where he's been doing a lot of cross training and also some aerobic work on the Alter-G (anti-gravity treadmill), and is now doing some more meaningful running outside on the ground.

"We're not in a position to put an exact date on when he'll resume full-training at this stage but we are very happy with his recovery so far."

Daw’s interrupted preseason may delay his return to football early in the season, but the surgery on his posterior cruciate ligament is expected to set him up well for the future.
