North Melbourne has announced its VFLW leaders for the 2024 season, with new-recruit Sarah King to join Jess Jones as a co-captain.

Already a credentialed leader, King made the switch to Arden Street from Collingwood in the off-season after helping take the Pies to the 2023 VFLW Grand Final as a vice-captain.

Jones set a high standard as standalone captain across 2023, playing all 14 games while averaging just under 13 disposals and 22 hitouts per game.

Brooke Slaney and Emily Paterno will both resume their roles in the leadership group for a third straight year. Paterno led the Kangaroos in goalkicking last season with nine goals from 14 appearances, while co-Best Clubwoman Award winner Slaney spent the majority of 2023 sidelined with a foot injury.

Mara McSweeney and recruit Renee Tierney are fresh additions to the leadership contingent and round out the group of six.

McSweeney featured 11 times for the Kangas last year after spending 2022 with the Bulldogs, while Tierney has come across from Essendon's AFLW program where she played four games.

North Melbourne's VFLW side will challenge the Western Bulldogs in the opening round of the season on Saturday, March 23 at 12.05pm at Mission Whitten Oval.
