The Kangaroos touched down in Port Lincoln on Saturday afternoon, ahead of their first NAB Challenge at the boutique Centenary Oval, about 650km west of Adelaide.

Brown, who is in just his second pre-season, said he is delighted the long wait was finally over.

“Everyone has been preparing for a few months now, so you are itching to play,” Brown told NMFC.com.au.

“It’s finally here, we get to play again and we are all looking forward to getting out there and giving it a real go.

“Everyone talks about it only being pre-season football, but this is really important for us – to get match fitness back and play against genuine opposition.”

While some say teams don’t give it their all when it comes to football prior to the season proper, Brown said he expected a tough encounter.

“We are going to go out there and play the best footy we can.

“To get back and be playing is really exciting and I’m looking forward to getting out there.”

The match, which will be live streamed on NMFC.com.au, sees the Roos take on Adelaide in what Brown knows will be a big match for those who call Port Lincoln home.

The players got a chance to check out Centenary Oval late on Saturday afternoon and were impressed with what they saw.

“For a community ground, the facilities are great. It looks like a well-kept ground and it’s a great community venue,” Brown said.

“I played a lot of my footy, particularly before I was drafted at community grounds so it’s going to be great to play in front of that community atmosphere, which is different to the big stadiums.

“It’s a pretty skinny ground, skinnier than Simonds Stadium (in Geelong), so that will make things a bit different and certainly interesting for us.”
