North Melbourne will play Richmond in a Friday night blockbuster in Round 23, the AFL has confirmed.

The floating fixture will be the Tigers' home game, after North hosted the Round 6 clash between the teams at Blundstone Arena.

Speaking on Footy Classified on Monday night, AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said the Tigers-Roos clash would be the best best solution to give all teams featuring in the finals an appropriate break.

"In the end if you played Richmond-North on the Friday night it means that as we sit here today, the top four teams then play on the Saturday."

The full Round 23 fixture will be released later today.

More to come...
