North Melbourne will enter its full VFL alignment with Werribee next year with added certainty following John Lamont's reappointment as senior coach, Roos director of football Geoff Walsh says.

Lamont last week signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to the Tigers until the end of the 2017 season.

He was appointed Werribee's coach in October 2013 after working in a development coaching role at North since 2007.

Walsh said Lamont's involvement with the Roos over the past nine years would allow for a seamless transition.

"He's had some time here at North Melbourne, both as a coach in his own right and he's also had some time as the Werribee coach with the partial alignment where he's had some continuity with a number of players on the list," Walsh told NMFC.com.au on Tuesday.

"The fact that we're going with a single alignment, a number of things change from an organisational point of view, so to have the continuity of a coach that we're all confident in, know well and the players respond to is a positive."

North has been aligned with both Werribee and North Ballarat since 2008 but will end its partnership with the Roosters at the end of the season.

Walsh said the Roos were fully supportive of the decision made by the Werribee board.

"The Werribee administration spoke to us about their intention and their preference to reappoint John, and as far as our input goes, it was an endorsement of that," he said.

"We had no role to play as such but certainly (we're) more than happy that someone like John is at the helm."

Walsh said the single alignment with the Tigers would ensure the Roos had more of an input in areas such as coaching, training and team selection.

"Because there's only the one team to focus on rather than two, we'll have a greater involvement," he said.

"That doesn't really translate into a greater say but we'll have a greater involvement in decision-making, and the consultation between the two bodies will be strong."
