North Melbourne’s Jack Ziebell is encouraging everyone to get out and get active this April.

Ziebell has been named as an official ambassador of the Premier’s Active April Challenge, where participants commit to undertaking at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.

The 25-year-old was at North Melbourne Primary School this week, showing his support for Active April and sharing the active message with local school kids.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of the Premier’s Active April initiative, and helping to motivate others to sign up, get out and get active,” Ziebell said.

“While not everyone can run and train as much as we do, I’d just encourage everyone to make the most of any spare time. Get out, have a kick of the footy or go for a walk – not only is it good for you, it’s always nice to get out and enjoy some fresh air.”

Premier’s Active April encourages all Victorians, no matter what their age, gender or fitness level, to do 30 minutes of physical activity a day for the month of April, with the aim of establishing long-term healthy habits.

Even though everyone should enjoy the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle, research shows it’s not the case. Around 80 per cent of children don’t exercise enough, and 60 per cent of Australian adults fail to meet the recommended levels of physical activity.

Participants can log their daily activity with the Active April activity tracker and chart their progress throughout the month. You can also create and join teams, track the progress of team members and earn rewards in your virtual Trophy Cabinet.

You can join Ziebell and sign up for free at activeapril.vic.gov.au. Registrations stay open until April 30.
