Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron has declared his team's finals campaign begins this week against North and will enter the clash with a full-strength squad.

Although GWS's final ladder position is unknown leading into round 23, one thing is certain; the expansion club will embark on its first finals series since joining the League in 2012.

Should the Giants remain in fifth spot by the end of the round, they will almost certainly host North in an elimination final in a fortnight.

Cameron viewed this weekend's match against the Roos as an important launch pad leading into September, saying the Giants' "finals start on Saturday night".

"We want to walk away saying, 'We matched it with North in all of these areas', and that gives us great confidence going into whatever happens after that," Cameron said on Wednesday.

"It'll be full steam ahead, there'll be no holding back from our end.

"We know any side that's capable of winning nine in a row is a very good side, and they've had their injury concerns … but I'm sure they'll attack it 100 per cent as well.

"We want to come in hardened and match fit, and playing against some really good opposition … so we look forward to the challenge."

The Roos could regain two players for the clash against the Giants, with playmaker Shaun Higgins (knee) and defender Luke McDonald (hamstring) in the frame to return from their lengthy injury spells.

On Wednesday, coach Brad Scott said the pair would "most likely" be in the mix, and confirmed defender Scott Thompson (groin) and Jarrad Waite (hip) would miss the final home and away match.

Cameron said he was expecting North to be strengthened by the return of some of its key players for the match at Etihad Stadium.

The Giants' coach added the eight-placed Roos could not be underestimated after they showed they were capable of challenging Hawthorn and the Sydney Swans over the past fortnight.

"They might have some players coming back that are clearly in their best 18, so they'll want to make sure they get a really good hit-out and they're back up and running," Cameron said.

"If you look really closely, it could've gone either way (in the match between) the Swans and the Kangaroos.

"The Swans are sitting on top for a reason … (but) the Kangas nearly knocked them off, and for three quarters of the game they matched it with Hawthorn.

"They'll bring in some quality players this week so it's going to be a really good game."
