North Melbourne will look to secure its second win for the VFL season, against the Frankston Dolphins at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Coach David Loader has named a strong 27-man squad, including 20 AFL-listed players.

North has retained ball-magnets Paul Ahern and Nick Rippon, with the poised playmaker slotting into a centre role for the Roos.

Ahern shone in his long-awaited return in the season opener. A game-high 29 disposals, including 16 contested possessions, garnering high-praise from the coaching panel.

Meanwhile, Frankston’s bid to end its winless start to the season will rest heavily on the performances of recruit Jake Batchelor and defensive utility Lachlan Williams, who were standouts in the Dolphins' 39-point loss at the hands of Box Hill in Round 2.

The former Richmond-listed Batchelor has been a key performer for the Adam Skrobalak-coached Frankston, highlighted by his 25 touches in difficult conditions against the Hawks.

St Kilda rookie-listed ruckman Lewis Pierce has been given the unenviable duty of attempting to derail ruck colossus Brayden Preuss, who asserted his authority on the exchanges against in-form big man Andrew Philips last weekend, proving pivotal with linking North’s attacking threats in the memorable three-point win.

Former Kangaroo Will Fordham will also be in action for the Frankston side, playing against several of his former midfield teammates.

Preuss complied an imposing 55 hit-outs in a dominant display against the Northern Blues. A repeat of these figures will be crucial to North’ success on Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Garner is slated to make his season debut following successful rehab on a groin injury. The 24-year-old is looking to make an impact and build on the momentum gained throughout his 18 AFL games last year.

Fans are invited to attend Saturday’s VFL match against the Frankston Dolphins at Avalon Airport Oval, with the first bounce at 2.00pm. Entry to home games is free for NMFC members.
