The Tigers don’t have the best track record in finals but coach Damien Harwick is determined to look forward, not back this time around.

In his third consecutive finals appearance at the helm, Hardwick believes his men have what it takes to beat the Roos in Sunday's elimination final and deliver his first post-season win.

"I think the proof is in our performance over the season," Hardwick said.

"We've improved drastically in a lot of areas we looked to improve over the course of the summer. We've won 15 games this year against some really good opposition as well.

"The consistency of our performance has been the striking point for mine and we look forward to taking that into round one of the finals this year."

Last year Richmond was embarrassed by Port in the finals and in 2013, the side fell to Carlton after a second half meltdown.

"Those finals are in the history books, there's nothing we can do about them now," Hardwick said.

"All we build on is the consistency we've put into the regular season and make sure we take that consistency into week one of the finals.

"It's a different ball game, different side, different opposition. There's no point looking back, we only look forward to what we can achieve this year."

While Hardwick refused to go over old ground, captain Trent Cotchin admitted the club’s recent finals disappointments still lingered.

"To be completely honest with you, it's hard to reflect. You talk about the last couple of years and all you remember is the disappointment of losing the final," Cotchin said.

"But the reality is we know exactly what's required from us and this year's been the most consistent we've been, with the same behaviours and everyone knowing and understanding and playing their role for a long period of time.

"I think that gives you confidence."

In team news, the Tigers could recall midfieder Reece Conca following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

"We'll still consider... he's been training fully now for two weeks but the equation we've got to take into it is that he hasn't played footy for the vast majority of the year," Hardwick added.

"But he's an important player, he's a quality player - do we take a risk? We're unsure at this stage.

"We'll see how he trains (on Tuesday) and Thursday and make an assessment."

North Melbourne will hold an open training session this Saturday (September 12, 2015) at Arden Street from 11.15am-12.00pm.
