Anthony Stevens is not one to back down from a challenge, as evidenced through his stellar 16-season career. However the two-time premiership champion will have to dig deep in November when he takes on the a2 Milk Upstream 50km challenge; a long-distance walk or run from Melbourne to Donvale.

“It’s fairly daunting,” Stevens told North Media at the launch last Friday.

“playing footy was mentally and physically tough and I don’t think this will be any different.”

Flanked by four decades of North Melbourne experience in Donald McDonald and current players Jamie MacMillan, Luke McDonald and Taylor Garner, Stevens’ efforts will help raise much needed funds.

“It’s inspiring to learn about the people that are working to improve the community, and anything we can do to raise awareness or help promote the cause feels great,” Luke McDonald said.

Established back in 2005, the a2 Milk Upstream Challenge requires each entrant to raise a minimum of $200, to be distributed to five beneficiaries; Raise – The Youth Mentoring Foundation, Very Special Kids, Fareshare, The Isabella and Marcus Foundation, and Her Heart.

“It was interesting to hear about what the foundation is doing, and getting a chance to talk to the charities that will receive the donations,” McDonald added.

Five years ago, Luke’s father Donald walked the walk and said it was both difficult and fulfilling, but he’s passed the baton to Stevens this time around.

This year’s challenge will take place Saturday, 10th of November 2018 - go to the website to sign up or learn more.
